Have a Happy Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day with White Cheddar and Pork Sausage Fondue!

If you know the origin of National Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day, please let us know! In the meantime, we'll be sacrificing for you and eating lots of cheese! ~ 37 Cooks

Cheese fondue is wonderful at a party or dinner with your family. I have a fondue pot, but when we eat this for dinner it is just easier putting it in individual bowls and letting everyone do their thing!

White Cheddar and Pork Sausage Fondue
by Tracy H
adapted from Beer and Cheddar Fondue in The All-New Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook

½ pound ground pork sausage
6 Tablespoon butter, melted
½ cup shallots, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
6 Tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
1 pound sharp white cheddar, grated
1 cup dry white wine or sherry
Salt
Pepper

French bread, cubed or sliced
fresh vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, cauliflower and celery

Crumble sausage, cook and drain. Set aside.

Saute butter, shallots and garlic in the saucepan until softened. Add the flour, and stir until smooth, about 1 minute. Add milk and stir until thickened. Stir in cheese and continue stirring until the cheese is melted. Add the sausage, wine, salt and pepper. At this point you may pour into a fondue pot or slow cooker. I just put it in individual bowls. It doesn't last long!

Serve with French bread and vegetables.
