This recipe was passed down from my grandmother. I use it every year for my Christmas sugar cookies.
Brown Sugar Cookies

1 cup margarine
2 cups brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 cups flour + enough for a stiff dough
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients in the order provided. If you wish to make colored cookies, work in some food coloring with your hands. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes, if desired. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
Makes 6-7 dozen. The dough may be kept in the freezer for a long time.
