Challah

I’m not much of a baker. Bread isn't my thing either. But a few of us in one of my facebook groups were participating in a Challah Challenge so I thought I’d try it. I used a recipe I found online here. It’s a basic recipe and I wasn't looking for anything too difficult. I was amazed I was able to do it. If I can do it so can YOU! Good luck! Watch the video (see below)!

Challah
by Aimee Michard

For the dough:
1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (no more than 110°F [43°C])
1/3 cup sugar
4 1/2 to 5 cups bread flour, or 5 1/2 to 6 cups bleached all-purpose flour
3 eggs
1/4 cup peanut, corn, or canola oil
2 teaspoons salt

For the egg wash:
1 egg
1 teaspoon sugar

For the method I used, please click here for the instructions!

There are instructions on the site on how to make the braid. To be honest, I didn't understand any of it so I turned to the good old Internet once again and found a videoThe video helped me immensely. I needed to SEE it in order to understand it.

  1. Pretty incredible looking bread! Pretty soon you're going to have to stop saying "I'm not much of a baker." I'm not much of a slicer, more a hunk-ripper-offer.
